Description
The quality, feel, and durability of the mitts depend heavily on these three material components:
Outer Shell:
This determines the mitt’s resistance to wear and tear.
- Genuine Leather (often Cowhide): The most durable and highest quality option. It is typically more expensive and molds to the holder’s hand over time.
- Synthetic Leather (PU, Vinyl): A more affordable and common choice. It is easier to clean but generally offers less long-term durability than genuine leather under heavy use.
Inner Padding:
This provides crucial shock absorption for both the boxer and the trainer.
- Multi-Layered Foam (often EVA Foam): The standard filling, using different densities to effectively disperse impact force and protect the hand/wrist joints.
- Gel Inserts: Sometimes integrated into the foam to enhance shock absorption and cushion the trainer’s palm.
Hand Compartment & Grip:
This section ensures the holder has a secure and comfortable fit.
- Grip Ball/Palm Dome: A small, raised ball of foam or material inside the palm to enhance the trainer’s grip and control of the pad.
- Lining: Soft, moisture-wicking fabric is often used inside the hand pocket to reduce sweating and improve comfort.
- Closure: Typically uses a Velcro strap around the wrist for a fast and secure adjustment.
